DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal official U.S. Navy photograph of Captain Joseph F. Bolger seated at his desk on board USS Intrepid. Captain Bolger is seated in a wooden armchair. His left leg is crossed over his right. He has a pipe in his mouth and is staring down at papers that he holds in both hands. Bolger has light skin and dark hair, and wears a khaki uniform with a tie, a naval aviator insignia pin on his left chest and a watch on his left wrist. On the desk, there are two framed photographs, each depicting a portrait of a light-skinned man with dark hair. The desk has a cylindrical metal lamp and stationery items including a fountain pen set, flat desk pad and wooden file tray with a label that reads “Outgoing”. Above the desk is a dark bookshelf with a framed picture of a group of men. A light switch and electrical cable, as well as metal rivets, can be seen on the bulkhead behind Bolger. The back of the photograph has "Capt Joseph Bolger // U.SS Intrepid" handwritten in black ink.On View
