DescriptionSet, Desk; Fountain pen desk set with white acrylic base (a), socket (b), fountain pen (c) and instruction booklet (d).

Base (a) – Rectangular acrylic base for a fountain pen desk set that is colored opaque white with cream-colored interior vein lines to appear like marble. The base has a gold rectangular plaque on the lower center and silver circular metal inset for socket (b). The bottom of the base is covered with green felt. The gold plaque has an inscription that reads “To the supply boss // USS Intrepid 1965-1967 // from the men of S-1”. There is a black rectangular sticker on the top edge of the base that reads “S Sheaffer”. There is a yellow sticker on the bottom that reads “Sheaffer // M07 desk set 47407 // with 500 cartridge pen, pencil or // ball point // M07/2000 // with 600 touch down pen // M07/2100 // with 1000 cartridge pen M07/2500 // with 1250 imperial pen M07/2750 // socket – plastic metal // W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. // made in Fort Madison, Iowa 52637 U.S.A.”

Socket (b) – Brown and gold plastic funnel shaped penholder socket that insets into the desk set base (a) and holds fountain pen (c). The bottom of the conical base is gold and has a triangular top lip with an extension that allows the socket to pivot from side to side. The middle of the socket is brown. The top edge is rimmed with gold and has an angular opening.

Pen, Fountain (c) – Long pointed brown fountain pin with silver metal tip. The top end of the pen tapers to a thin point. There is a thin, silver metal ring surrounding the widest part of the pen. There is a thin triangular strip of metal near the top of the fountain tip. A silver stamp near the center of the pen reads “500 cert. // desk pen // med. 85.00”. There is an inscription near the silver metal ring that reads “Sheaffer – Made in U.S.A.”.

Booklet, Instruction (d) – Rectangular paper instruction booklet for fountain pen desk set that folds into a square. Top has a large blue “S” and “Sheaffer ® // A Textron company” printed in black on it. The booklet folds out vertically and is printed on either side with black, blue and white backgrounds and text. There are also images of how to refill the ink and lead as well as assemble desk sets.
