The Richard Montfort Work Logs contains 15 logbooks focused on Montfort's job as an electrical engineer during his time in the Navy and on USS Intrepid from December 3, 1942 to September 25, 1945. The logbooks serve as a day to day diary of Montfort's work tasks on Intrepid. These tasks include a record of memos Montfort received, depth logs, equipment status, ongoing repairs, duty officer schedules, drawn schematics and diagrams, records of various conversations and communications, and equipment and compartment inspections.

The logbooks briefly mention major Intrepid events such as the February 17, 1944 torpedo attack and the April 16, 1945 kamikaze attack, as well as other Intrepid events and movements throughout World War II deployments.
