DescriptionScrapbook; October 7, 1943–April 23, 1945. Scrapbook containing 79 pages. The scrapbook is bound with string and has a brown leather cover that reads “Photo-Log” in red and white with a color painting of a sailor holding signal flags in front of five ships at sea with an aircraft in the sky above them. At left, there is an eagle on an anchor with a rope around it. The interior pages are a combination of fill in the blank type log for the first 30 pages, then starts with black scrapbook pages with clippings and photographs.Insert: Newspaper clipping inserted after front cover that reads “Holiday Inferno // Service on carrier Intrepid // recalls fierce WWII battle” by James Harney with a photograph of Intrepid fire controller Ed Gardiner with no date.
Page 1: Certificate titled “Domain of Neptunus Rex” Certificate has a black and white drawing at the top of the certificate of King Neptune, mermaids, and ships at sea. The certificate reads: “To all Sailors wherever ye may be and to all Mermaids, Sea Serpents, Whales // Sharks, Dolphins, Skates, Suckers, Crabs, and other Living Things of the Sea, Greetings: // Know Ye: That on this 22 day of Jan 1944 in Latitude 000”00” and Longitude 179’06W there appeared // within Our Royal Domain the USS Intrepid bound for the Japanese // Empire.
