The logbooks contain flight logs and notes from Norwald R. Quiel's service as a pilot in the Navy from 1943 through 1955. During this time on USS Intrepid in 1945, he was a pilot with Fighting Squadron 10 (VF-10). Notable entries include April 16, 1945, when Intrepid was hit by a kamikaze. Quiel shot down four enemy aircraft that day and later earned the Silver Star for his efforts. He was an ace with six confirmed kills during his service.
