DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Official horizontal image of three Japanese officers sitting at a table signing the document of surrender of Marcus Island (Minamitorishima). They are wearing Japanese military uniforms and have light skin and dark hair. Two of the men are wearing glasses. There are U.S. Navy officers and enlisted men standing behind and next to them. Most are wearing U.S. Navy officer khaki working uniforms with some wearing U.S. Navy enlisted work dungaree work uniforms. Some are wearing tan combination caps and some are wearing U.S. Navy enlisted white caps, also known as "Dixie cups." They all have light skin and medium to dark hair. They are on the deck of a ship. This is part of a series of photographs from the Japanese surrender in August and September 1945. There is a white border around the image with the captions "Japs Surrender Marcus Island 31 Aug. 1945. US Navy Photo 135-20" printed in black ink.
