DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Official vertical image of two men leaning on a catwalk railing in one of the engine rooms on USS Intrepid. Both men have light skin. The man standing on the left, Commander Michael V. Martini, is wearing a U.S. Navy officer khaki work uniform, with a dark tie and an officer’s hat. The man to his right has dark hair and is wearing a U.S. Navy dungaree working uniform with the insignia of a first class petty officer. He is leaning toward Commander Martini, nearly completely obscuring a third man standing between the first two. One of the padlocked inspection hatches of the engine reduction gearbox is visible at the bottom right of the image. Pipes and wiring fill the background. There is a white border around the image.A horizontal strip of paper is taped to the bottom part of the image with the caption “BURGESS, MM1 gives me the dope at the catwalk above #1 main reduction gear” printed in black ink.
