DescriptionMatchbook; USS Intrepid recommissioning matchbook box with no matches on the interior. On the front flap is a detailed image of Intrepid's port side at sea printed in black ink. The ship's hull number "11" is visible on the island and both ends of the flight deck. Printed below the image in black ink is text that reads "U.S.S. Intrepid (CVA-11). The back has a square hole at center with rounded edges. At left is an image of the first USS Intrepid at sea printed in black ink. The wooden ship, a ketch, has two masts with a pennant flying at the top of the mainmast. Printed in black ink below the image is text that reads "1798–1804". On the back at right, there is printed text surrounded by a triple-lined, rectangular border with small florets in each corner. The text reads "- U.S. Ketch Intrepid - // Ketch Intrepid Built By France, 1798 // Captured by U.S.S. Enterprise, 23 Dec. 1803 // Destroyed The Philadelphia, 16 Feb. 1804 // Blew Up In Tripoli Harbor // With All Hands Lost, 4 Sept. 1804". "U.S. Navy" is printed in black ink on the top and bottom long edge of the matchbook case.On View
