DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of a prototype McDonnell Douglas XF4H-F, designation changed in 1962 to F-4A Phantom II, one of the first 45 built. Seen on a steam catapult. A blast shield is raised behind the aircraft and an aircraft bridle is on the front wheel. Steam is rising from the catapult track. The name, “Phantom II” is on the side of the plane and the aircraft is numbered, “6”. A mist or cloud surrounds the image making the plane and track the only things visible.On View
