William C. Ziemer served as a pilot on board USS Intrepid with Fighting Squadron 18 (VF-18) in the fall of 1944. He was shot down over Formosa (Taiwan) on October 12, 1944. Ziemer died in a Japanese prisoner of war (POW) camp in August 1945.
