Noble J. Atkins Sr.

BiographyNoble J. Atkins Sr. served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, USNR, from April 1942 until June 1946, ultimately becoming a lieutenant commander. He was assigned to Torpedo Squadron 10 (VT-10) in late 1944. Air Group 10 embarked on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) in February 1945. A lieutenant at the time, Atkins was the squadron's administrative officer. His responsibilities included maintaining records on each pilot and aircraft, and writing reports. He sustained an injury while serving on board Intrepid and left the ship in June 1945 in order to undergo an operation at the San Diego Naval Hospital.
