Thomas Barnett

BiographyThomas P. Barnett served in the U.S. Navy from May 31, 1957 until May 24, 1962. He served on two submarines that carried the Regulus I nuclear missile: USS Growler (SSG-577) and USS Halibut (SSGN-587). He served on board Growler from 1961 to 1962 as a gunner's mate technician (submarines), GMT1 (SS). This rating was called nuclear weaponsman until 1962. He also was assigned to Guided Missile Unit 10 at Pearl Harbor and worked on other Regulus missile submarines. Barnett has been interviewed for the Museum's oral history collection (OHP162). After this time in the Navy, he went on to be a CPA at department stores and also served in the U.S. Coast Guard and Reserves.
