Leslie C. Clemmer

BiographyLeslie C. Clemmer served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) during World War II. He was part of the ship's commissioning crew on August 16, 1943 and served on board until October 1945. While attending college in California in 1943, he signed up for the Navy's V-12 officer training program. After being commissioned as an ensign, he reported to Newport News to join Intrepid's commissioning crew. His first assignment aboard Intrepid was in the gunnery department. He later served as the ship's signal officer. Clemmer attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade during his time on the ship. He is quoted in the May 1945 issue of the Intrepid newspaper on pages 9-10. After leaving the Navy, Clemmer became a high school teacher. He died in 2016.
