DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Square, official, aerial image looking down on Roi Island in the Marshall Islands. The island has recently been bombed. The land stretches across the bottom half of the image, and a beach runs around the edge. Many locations have been hit by bombs and are smoking. A plane is visible in the upper left quadrant. A ship is in the water in the upper right quadrant. Typed at the bottom of the image is, “INT. 2 129-44 2030 G.C.T. 20” ROI conf.” A clock face is in the lower right corner. A black border is around the image, and there are tabs in the center of each edge. The left border has, “Eastman regular safety” running down it. The back has "Official photograph // not to be used for publication // by order of // the Chief of the Bureau // of Aeronautics // U.S.S. Intrepid" stamped in black ink.On View
