DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of Intrepid’s flight deck when the crew is manning the rails. Enlisted men in white uniforms are along the port and starboard sides of the flight deck. Two rows of Marines stand across the forward edge of the deck. Aircraft including North American FJ Furys, Grumman F9F Cougars, Douglas AD Skyraiders and Piasecki HUP-2 Retrievers are parked on the flight deck. Land is on the left side of the image. There is a caption in red pen in the top right of the image, “U.S.S. Intrepid. Norfolk, VA. 1956-1958”. The angled flight deck indicates that the image dates from 1957 or thereafter.
