The William A. Young Papers contain correspondence and other ephemera from Young's service aboard USS Intrepid. The majority of the collection is correspondence in the form of letters and postcards to his wife and discusses topics such as ports of call, shore patrol, the USO, difficulties in calling home, life aboard Intrepid, and other day-to-day activities. Within the 36 postcards, there are cards from Haiti, Cuba, Gibraltar, Spain, Italy, France, Monaco and Turkey. The collection also includes an invitation and program from Intrepid's recommissioning ceremony.

Correspondence;
- July 4, 1955, addressed to "My dearest darling"
- July 6, 1955, addressed to "My dearest wife"
- August 6, 1955, addressed to "My dearest wife," written on paper with printed images of Greek buildings and streets

- The postcards are from Haiti, Cuba, Gibraltar, Malaga, Pisa, Florence, Venice, Rome, Rapallo, Genoa, Lake Como, Pompeii, Valencia, Marseille, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Rhodes, Istanbul and Tivoli. One postcard (September 24, 1955) is an image of a cartoon cat with googly eyes and a button to push at the nose, which emits a squeak. The postcards discuss the various ports Intrepid visited, shore patrol, how much he loves and misses his wife, trying to call her, and other day-to-day events in port.
