DescriptionMedal; Purple Heart Medal. The gold-rimmed medal is in the shape of a heart. In the center is a purple enamel base with a gold profile of George Washington in stark relief. Above the heart is a shield depicting the coat of arms of George Washington. The shield is white. It has two red bars beneath three red stars that are located between sprays of green leaves. The ribbon is dark purple with white stripes on either edge. The back of the medal is gold and has “For // Military // Merit” written in relief. The back of the ribbon has a brooch bar pin closure.
