DescriptionMedal; Purple Heart Medal (a) in box (b).a) Medal; Purple Heart Medal. The gold-rimmed medal is in the shape of a heart. In the center is a purple enamel base with a gold profile of George Washington in stark relief. Above the heart is a shield depicting the coat of arms of George Washington. The shield is white. It has two red bars beneath three red stars located between sprays of green leaves. The ribbon is dark purple with narrow white stripes on each edge.
The back of the medal is gold and has “For // Military // Merit” written in relief. The back of the ribbon has a brooch bar pin closure. “Ensign // Loren F. // Isley // USNR” is inscribed below. The back of the ribbon has a brooch bar pin closure.
b) Box; Award box for Purple Heart Medal. Rectangular box with top vertical opening. Exterior is purple. Interior of box is lined with white satin on the cover and purple velvet on the base. There is a small loop of white satin attached to the center base of the box interior to pull the velvet out of the box. The purple velvet has two small holes in the fabric to attach the brooch bar pin closure of the medal.
