DescriptionJacket; Uniform, Military; U.S. Navy officer service dress blue coat with notched collar. The jacket is double-breasted and has six central gold buttons with three on each front panel of the jacket. In stark relief on each button is an eagle with outstretched wings grasping a fouled anchor in its talons. The image is encircled in thirteen stars and the edge of the button is bordered with braided rope. On each sleeve cuff is a gold star attached above three gold stripes, indicating the rank of Commander. The coat has two large pockets at each hip that open to the exterior. There is a small pocket on the right chest which opens to the exterior. Pinned above the pocket on the right chest is a ribbon board of two rows consisting of six service ribbons. It is attached by four butterfly clutch pin backings. The top row has three ribbons (l-r): Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. The bottom row has three ribbons (l-r): Navy Occupation Medal, China Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Above the ribbon board is a U.S. Naval Aviator insignia pin, also referred to as wings of gold. The pin depicts outstretched wings with a striped shield on top of a fouled anchor in the center. The pin is in slight relief and has a bar pin closure with a hook on the back.Above the right waist pocket is a vertical opening into the interior of the jacket. At the interior of the opening, there is a flap that is secured with a black plastic button. The jacket has a blue fabric hanging loop attached to the interior collar. There is a pocket on the interior of the left front panel. A black and blue fabric label is attached to the pocket. Text stitched in white and blue thread into the label reads "LAN-C-AIR // Uniform // A blend of // wool // & dacron // polyester // Davis // clothing co. // Boston // D // C". There is a coat of arms logo stitched into the lower right corner of the label in white thread. A white fabric label is attached to the interior of the pocket. Text that is printed in black ink and handwritten in blue ink on the label reads " Size 42 Long // Name G.E. Allison // Service No. 50012 // Manufactured by Davis Clothing Co. // In accordance with applicable U.S. Uniform Regulations".
