DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Official horizontal image of a collision between the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid and USS Canisteo (AO-99), a Cimarron-class fleet oiler. The photograph was taken from the starboard side of Intrepid's island looking forward. Intrepid's flight deck and catwalk are on the left side of the image. Canisteo is alongside Intrepid, with the port side of the oiler touching the starboard side of Intrepid. Part of the oiler is pushing on one of Intrepid’s gun tubs, bending the structure upwards. Canisteo's name and hull number are painted on the stern of the ship, which faces the viewer. The crew of Canisteo is visible on the starboard side of the ship. The water around the ships is calm. A white border surrounds the image. On View
