BiographyGeorge A. Griffith Jr. served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) as a fighter pilot with Fighting Squadron 18 (VF-18) during World War II. He was a lieutenant. On October 28, 1944, Griffith’s aircraft experienced engine failure on takeoff, fell into the ocean and was run over by the ship. Destroyers searched for him, but nothing was found.
