Edgar Gerald Blankenship

BiographyEdgar Gerald Blankenship served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) in World War II. He was a pilot with fighter squadron VF-18, which was attached to Intrepid from August through November 1944. He flew the Grumman F6F Hellcat, and his rank at the time was lieutenant junior grade. Blankenship was immortalized in fellow VF-18 pilot Edward Ritter’s cartoons as "Snipo." He passed away soon after the end of World War II.
