DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of USS Intrepid’s commanding officer Capt. William Easton inspecting the crew on the flight deck. Officers are walking down the center of two rows of enlisted men on either side. The enlisted men are wearing white jumpers, trousers, “Dixie cup” hats, and black neckerchiefs. The officers are wearing white uniforms with combination caps and white gloves. Easton is wearing a sword. Most of the men have light skin; two enlisted sailors have dark skin. The pictured inspection is the first since the ship’s recommissioning in June 1954. There is a white border around the image. The back of the image is captioned with a stamp and handwriting, “No. CVA-11 (L) 248 Date 7/24/54 // Unit USS Intrepid // Made for PID // Subject Capt W.T. Easton // holding first // personnel inspection // aboard USS Intrepid.” Below the caption is the stamp, “Released // if published credit // must be given as follows ‘Official Photograph // U.S. Navy’”.On View
