DescriptionCap, Service; U.S. Navy combination cap. The detachable fabric cover of the hat is white. On the front of the black cap band is an officer cap device consisting of a silver federal shield over two gold crossed fouled anchors, surmounted by a silver eagle. The black visor is embroidered with a single row of gold oak leaves and acorns, indicating the rank of commander or captain. This embroidery is nicknamed scrambled eggs. A gold chinstrap is attached by gold buttons.

Behind the crest there is “Bernara // snap cap // stretchbraid // (illegible) / one size fits all // pat (illegible)” printed in gold and a sticker that reads “E 1 // $2.50”. Underneath the white band at the exterior back there is a sticker that reads “Lot N81641 // Style 21PC3- // union made” and two labels that read “Bernara // snap cap // perfect alignment // is a snap! // care/content // on rear // 100% polyester // gentle machine // wash-warm. Tumble dry // reshape. No ironing needed // Bernard Cap Co., Inc.” and “This garment is warranted to // meet or exceed the requirements // established by the certification // program and was produced under // certificate no. U.S. Navy // from basic materials warranted by // the manufacturer to have been // produced in accordance with the // sample under current certifications.” The interior has a plastic strip with a sticker that reads “Bancroft // military caps // Makers of fine caps for // over 50 years // Framingham, Massachusetts”. The brown leather inner band has “’This Zephyr // you can pac’” and “Patent no. 2,844,824” printed in gold.
