DescriptionCap, Service; U.S. Navy combination cap. The detachable fabric cover of the hat is white. On the front of the black cap band is a U.S. Navy Officer insignia pin. The pin depicts a silver eagle with outstretched wings grasping a shield superimposed over two bronze fouled anchors. The shield has thirteen stars in two horizontal lines at the top with thirteen vertical stripes in an alternating relief pattern below. A gold fabric chin strap is attached to the hat band along the top edge of the visor with a small gold retaining button on either side. In stark relief on each button is an eagle with outstretched wings grasping a fouled anchor in its talons. The image is encircled in thirteen stars and the edge of the button is bordered with braided rope. Officer insignia consisting of gold oak leaves is embroidered on the visor. This embroidery is nicknamed scrambled eggs.The interior sweat band is brown leather with diagonal lines of five holes for air flow punched around the band. The interior frame of the hat is made of material similar to burlap. The interior fabric lining is white. Two yellowed leather panels are attached to the front interior and center interior of the hat. Text printed on the interior center leather panel in black cursive ink reads "Styled // by // Vanguard military equipment co. // of // New York". A white label is attached to the back interior of the black cap band. Text on the label is printed in black ink and reads “Size L // This garment is warranted to meet or exceed the // standards of U.S. Navy Certification Program // Requirements and was produced under Certificate // 1W14-344-23 from basic materials warranted by // the manufacturer to have been produced in accordance // with the // sample under current certificate // Wash in Warm Water, Tumble Dry // 65% Polyester 35% Cotton // “Bancroft Cap Co., Inc. // 1-1". The interior sweat band has a white label attached to it at left with 7 1/4 // LO // FR" printed in black ink on it.
