DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal official U.S. Navy image of photographer's mate Jon Matthews measuring chemicals used to develop photographs. Matthews is crouched down so that he is eye level with a balance scale placed on a work surface. He holds a silver metal spoon in his right hand that is poised above a scale pan that has a white chemical powder on it. His left arm rests on the surface of the table and his index finger touches the scale. Next to his left elbow is an open glass jar of a white powdered chemical with the black top of the jar placed in front of it. A smaller, closed, dark glass jar is placed next to it.
