DescriptionUniform, Military; U.S. Navy Officer Service Dress Blue Coat. The double-breasted jacket is dark blue. There are six central gold buttons, with three on each front panel of the jacket. The buttons have a design of an eagle with outstretched wings grasping an anchor in its talons. The edge of the button is bordered with braided rope and thirteen stars. The sleeves have a gold star on a circular patch affixed above two gold stripes on each cuff, indicating the rank of lieutenant. There is a small pocket on the proper left chest. Above the pocket opening is a naval aviator wings patch decorated with metallic thread. The patch depicts a striped shield atop an anchor, with outstretched wings on either side. There are a series of combined ribbon bars (three in total) attached to the jacket below the proper left chest patch. The jacket has two large hip pockets.

The jacket arrived with multiple ribbon bars pinned to the proper left chest, and some of the ribbons are duplicates. The top ribbon bar has three awards. From left to right: American Defense Service Medal, ribbon is predominantly yellow with blue, white and red stripes on either edge; American Campaign Medal, ribbon is predominantly light blue with red, white, black and dark blue stripes; and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, ribbon is predominantly yellow with white, red and blue stripes with three bronze star devices.

The middle ribbon bar has two awards. From left to right: Air Medal, ribbon is blue with two orange stripes; and Philippine Liberation Medal, ribbon is red with blue and white center stripes.

The bottom ribbon bar has two awards. From left to right: American Campaign Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze star devices.

Above the proper left waist pocket is a vertical opening into the interior of the jacket. There is an interior flap, and the opening is secured with a black plastic button. The jacket has a blue fabric hanging loop attached to the interior collar. There is a small interior pocket on either side of the front opening panels. A black fabric label is attached to the interior above the proper right pocket that reads " F // M" in white and orange thread respectively. A black fabric label is attached the proper right pocket that reads "Abbott // military tailors // Washington Inc. Baltimore". There is an image of an eagle with outstretched wings in silver thread in the center of the label.
