DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Official vertical image of three sailors performing repairs to USS Intrepid’s catapult bridle arresters, or bridle catchers, at the bow end of the flight deck, while two other sailors look on. In the foreground of the image, two sailors in U.S. Navy dungaree working uniforms and an officer in a U.S. Navy officer khaki work uniform are standing, crouching or sitting on a bridle arrester, a steel protrusion that stretches from right to left across the photo. The working party are lowering a rope out of sight below the bridle arrester. The rope is partially wrapped around one of three wooden beams that are placed flat across the bridle arrester. Two other sailors in U.S. Navy dungaree working uniforms are standing at the upper right of the image, watching the others work. All of the sailors and the officer have light skin and dark hair. The background of the image shows the sea stretching to the horizon, with another ship, possibly a Neosho-class fleet oiler, in the far right distance. There is a white border around the image.

A horizontal strip of paper is taped to the bottom part of the image with the caption “'Mistral' damage 4-5 Nov 61. The nets under both catapult booms were demolished. CWO EIDEN supervises the rigging of a working platform. This “R” Division personnel will soon be at it” printed in black ink.
