DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Official horizontal image of three sailors in one of the fire rooms on USS Intrepid. All three of the sailors have light skin and are wearing U.S. Navy dungaree working uniforms. One of the sailors has medium hair, and the other two have dark hair. The front of one of Intrepid’s boilers is visible on the right side of the image, with various pipes, hoses and fittings. One of the sailors is standing in the center of the image, using a large pipe wrench to tighten one of the boiler’s fuel oil root valves. The other two sailors, on the left edge of the image, are observing the first sailor’s work. There is a white border around the image.A horizontal strip of paper is taped to the bottom part of the image with the caption in “Fireroom personnel keeping up with the maintenance work” printed in black ink.
