Harold L. Zieg

BiographyHarold L. Zieg served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) during World War II. He enlisted in Omaha, Nebraska, on March 7, 1944. He was received on board Intrepid on July 25, 1944 as a seaman second class (radarman), as he was training to be a radarman. He was promoted to first class in late September and to radarman third class (RD3) on November 14. On November 25, Zieg was one of a group of radarmen killed when two Japanese aircraft crashed into the ship. He was initially listed as missing in action, and his remains were never found. Zieg had two children. His wife, Betty, never remarried.
