Edward Y. Reid

BiographyEdward Y. Reid, from Wethersfield, Connecticut, served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) as a hospital corpsman first class (HM1) in 1967, during Intrepid’s second Vietnam War deployment. During his time in the Navy, Reid was deployed to Vietnam three times: in 1963, aboard USS Providence (CLG-6), the flagship for the Seventh Fleet; in 1965, with the Marine Corps; and in 1967, aboard Intrepid. Prior to his time aboard Intrepid, Reid also served with the Third Marine Division in Okinawa.

While aboard Intrepid, Reid was primarily an operating room technician in sick bay. However, he also performed administrative duties. In all, Reid served ten years in the Navy, from 1958 to 1968. His last tour of duty was as a hospital corpsman, medical representative aboard USS Waldo County (LST-1163). After leaving the Navy, Reid sold respiratory and anesthesia equipment. The Museum recorded his oral history interview on April 14, 2022.
