DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal official U.S. Navy image of Captain Vincent Kelley cutting a large piece of cake. Kelley is using a large knife to cut a corner off USS Intrepid’s 25th anniversary cake, as part of the celebration of the ship's commissioning anniversary. Kelley is handing the cake to two commissarymen holding a plate out to him. Kelley, who has light skin, is wearing khakis and a baseball cap. The commissarymen are wearing white uniforms and chef’s hats. One commissaryman has light skin and the other has dark skin. There are other officers and crew members in the background. On top of the cake is a replica F-8 Crusader airplane make out of icing. There is a white border around the image. A typed caption is on the back. “Official Navy Photograph // not for publication // unless officially released” Also stamped and handwriting on the back is, “CVS-11 Date 17 Aug 68 // U.S.S. Intrepid (CVS-11)”.
