DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of looking across choppy water to the USS Eugene A. Greene (DD-711), a Gearing-class destroyer. Refueling lines are connecting the ship to Intrepid. Men are on the upper decks of the ship. There is a white border around the image and the left and right borders are scalloped. The back has “7 Jan 62 // USS E.A. Greene alongside” written in black ink and “F170115 Polaroid”, “47”, and “2” stamped in black and blue.Description from accompanying letter dated January 6, 1962 reads “Five other photos show the USS Eugene A. Greene (DDR 711), my very first ship, alongside while steaming in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the demonstration for 2 or 3 dozen Italian Air Force Cadets of highline procedure. LCDR Gallup is Ordnance Officer on our ship.”
