DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of an officer in a life jacket and peaked cap sitting in a highline chair. He is holding a package in his lap. The officer appears to have light or medium-light skin. A dark-skinned man in a life jacket and hard hat is behind the highline chair, on a lower deck. The water off the ship is slightly choppy. There is a white border around the image and the left and right borders are scalloped. The back has “7 Jan 62 // LCDR Fred Gallup highlining from 711” and “H176211 Polaroid”, “47”, and “8” stamped in blue and black.Description from accompanying letter dated January 6, 1962 reads “Five other photos show the USS Eugene A. Greene (DDR 711), my very first ship, alongside while steaming in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the demonstration for 2 or 3 dozen Italian Air Force Cadets of highline procedure. LCDR Gallup is Ordnance Officer on our ship.”
