DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of the hull of the USS Eugene A. Greene (DD-711), a Gearing-class destroyer. Large guns are at the front of the ship. The hull number and raised anchor are also visible. The water around the ship is calm. There is a white border around the image and the left and right borders are scalloped. The back has “7 Jan 62 // USS E.A. Greene (my first ship)” written in black ink and “H176111 Polaroid”, “47”, and “3” stamped in black and blue.Description from accompanying letter dated January 6, 1962 reads “Five other photos show the USS Eugene A. Greene (DDR 711), my very first ship, alongside while steaming in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the demonstration for 2 or 3 dozen Italian Air Force Cadets of highline procedure. LCDR Gallup is Ordnance Officer on our ship.”
