Lloyd Abbott, the commanding officer of USS Intrepid, sitting in the captain's chair on the navigation bridge in the ship's island. This is a humorous, posed photograph. Abbott is wearing a U.S. Navy officer summer white uniform and a pith helmet. He is holding a rifle and a horn. Abbott has light skin, and he is frowning at the camera. There is a potted palm tree between the captain's chair and bulkhead. A sign at Abbott's feet reads "The Captain's Palm // Approach no // closer than // 10 feet" in black ink.
