DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Personal horizontal image of a crew member inspecting a fire pump on the upper level of a fire room (boiler room) on USS Intrepid. The sailor has dark skin, dark hair and a mustache. He is wearing glasses and a U.S. Navy dungaree working uniform with the insignia of a second class petty officer. He is bending down and turning toward the fire pump on the left of the image, and two fingers of his right hand are on a thermometer that is attached to a small, uninsulated pipe leading toward the pump. The fire pump itself occupies the left side of the image. In the foreground to the right of the man is one of the corners of a boiler studded with bolts. In the background behind the boiler, one of the forced draft blowers is visible. The word “Exhaust” is stenciled on a piece of insulation on the right of the image. More piping is visible in the background. There is a white border on the image with “Sep 67” printed in black ink. Back has “13” handwritten in blue ink and a repeating watermark which reads “A Kodak Paper.”
