DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Personal horizontal image of a crew member at the emergency feed pump on the lower level of Number One Fire Room (a boiler room) on USS Intrepid. The sailor has light skin and dark hair, and he is wearing a U.S. Navy dungaree working uniform with the insignia of a third class petty officer. He has his right hand on the emergency feed pump and his left hand by his side. Piping is visible all along the bulkhead that the man is facing. Left of his head, the engine order telegraph receivers are in shadow but visible. Right of his head, another man is visible in the background, in deep shadow. He has light skin and dark hair and is wearing a dungaree working uniform. Right of that sailor, text is visible on a bulkhead that reads “Number One // Fireroom.” Foreground and on the far right, the ladder to the upper level of the fire room is visible, with a bucket underneath it. There is a white border on the image with “Sep 67” printed in black ink. Back has “10” handwritten in blue ink and a repeating watermark which reads “A Kodak Paper.”
