DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Personal horizontal image of a crew member operating a boiler feed check valve on the upper level of a fire room (boiler room) on USS Intrepid. The sailor has medium-light skin and dark hair, and he is wearing a U.S. Navy dungaree working uniform. Both of his hands are extended to grasp the wheel that operates feed check valve on the left side of the image. Below the valve wheel, “Check” is stenciled on the insulation of the main feed line, which is the large pipe which runs across the bottom left of the image. To the right of the feed check valve is the automatic feed regulator valve. “Copes” is stenciled on the pipe insulation below that valve, referring to the manufacturer of the automatic regulator. The steam drum at the top of the boiler forms the background of the upper left portion of the image. On the right, more piping is visible in the background. There is a white border on the image with “Sep 67” printed in black ink. Back has “12” handwritten in blue ink and a repeating watermark which reads “A Kodak Paper.”
