DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of a Douglas AD-6 Skyraider from Attack Squadron 25 (VA-25) just after catching an arresting wire while landing on USS Intrepid. The airplane is numbered “4606 // 411” and the back wheels of the aircraft have not touched down yet. An auxiliary fuel tank has fallen off the airplane and is just grazing the deck. A plume of smoke is starting to come out of the tank. The optical landing system (OLS) is on the port side of the flight deck. The nose of a Douglas F4D-1 Skyray parked on the starboard side of the deck is in the lower left corner. Another ship is visible in the distance behind Intrepid. The photograph was taken from the island. On View
