DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Personal horizontal image of a crew member adjusting a feed check valve on the upper level of one of the fire rooms (boiler rooms) on USS Intrepid. The sailor has dark hair and dark skin, and he is wearing a U.S. Navy dungaree working uniform with the shirtsleeves rolled up to mid-bicep. A keyring is hanging from his belt. His shirt is soaked in sweat around his shoulders. The man’s left hand is resting on the feed check valve wheel and his right hand is hanging by his side. He is looking toward the sight glasses on the steam drum, which are visible on the right side of the image in the foreground. The steam drum itself is visible at the right edge of the image. A large pipe runs horizontally in front of the man behind a railing, and “Feed Sto” is stenciled on it. More pipes are visible in the background. One is stenciled with “Discharge” and an upward arrow, and another is painted with an arrow pointing left. There is a white border on the image with “Sep 67” printed in black ink. Back has “24” handwritten in blue ink and a repeating watermark which reads “A Kodak Paper.”
