DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Personal horizontal image of a crew member adjusting the main steam stop valve on the back wall of a boiler in one of the fire rooms (boiler rooms) on USS Intrepid. The sailor has dark hair and light skin. He is wearing a U.S. Navy dungaree working uniform, with the shirtsleeves cut off mid-bicep. The name “Bowman” is written on the back of the sailor’s shirt and pants. His left hand is extended to grasp the boiler’s main steam stop valve. Other fittings on the back of the boiler are visible around the man, including large pipes insulated with asbestos lagging to his right. In the background on the far right of the image more pipes and valves are visible. There is a white border on the image with “Sep 67” printed in black ink. Back has “22” handwritten in blue ink and a repeating watermark which reads “A Kodak Paper.”
